What is the largest sewage treatment works in the world and how much sewage can it process per day?
Waste Water:
There are probably several claimants, depending on the parameter chosen, dry solids out or liquid in but the main pretender
to the throne so to speak seems to be the Stickney WWTP of Chicago which covers some 570 acres of land and generates around
150ktes/year of dry solids equivalent from an influent of 1.2 billion US gallons/day. Again to put these numbers in some kind
of context, Northumbrian Water Ltd's Bran Sands sludge treatment facility is claimed to be able to handle 75ktes/year of dry
solids.
