IWO Annual Conference & Exhibition 2009
23 - 25th April 2009 The Sage, Gateshead
CLIMATE CHANGE - OUR ROLE IN A GLOBAL CRISIS
The Water Industry is responsible for around 2% of UK carbon dioxide emissions - largely the result of our energy consumption. Each family, for example, uses around a tonne of water every 2 - 3 days and that water has to be pumped hundreds of feet "into the air" first and then disposed of. As practitioners we have a huge responsibility and a real opportunity; from water efficiency and renewables through to capital investment, innovation and procurement practice. This national conference presented and debated what we have done, what we are doing and what we have yet to do.
As always the Conference was complimented with a great social line up. The event opened with a cruise on the River Tyne in which the AGM was held. Thursday night saw the now famous Saint Gobain Night which this year was held at St James Park - the home of Newcastle United Football Club. Delegates enjoyed an evening of football related fun. This year the President's Dinner was held at the Discovery Museum, and there was a great suprise in store with the singing waiters. A trip to Alnwick Garden on the Saturday rounded off the event.
